Frequently Asked Questions
Life coaching is another form of support to assist individuals in finding motivation to move forward towards their personal and professional goals. This type of support can lead to greater fulfillment in social life, relationships, independent living, career aspirations, academic pursuits and overall day-to-day living.
To be honest, if you’re researching and reading this, the answer is more than likely yes. If you need assistance in clarifying goals, identifying challenges and developing strategies to overcome those challenges–then life coaching/psychosocial rehabilitation might be the best fit. Life coaching/psychosocial rehabilitation focuses on you, the individual, to achieve long-term change in confidence, resilience and positive thinking.
To be clear, life coaching/psychosocial rehabilitation does not replace therapeutic support. Life coaching/psychosocial rehabilitation is a component of support systems to complement achieving your desired outcomes. If currently under care, please consult with your therapist or other mental health professional to assist in determining if life coaching/psychosocial rehabilitation will assist in reaching your goals. Therapists and other mental health professionals’ primary focus is on treating mental health conditions, working through trauma or other issues impeding daily living while life coaching/psychosocial rehabilitation focuses on self-discovery and life purpose. Simply put, therapy emphasis is on mental health and life coaching/psychosocial rehabilitation emphasis is on goal setting and personal growth through accomplishing tasks and milestones. Life coaches and psychosocial rehabilitation specialists (PRS) provide services and create learning opportunities in the home, community and office setting.
Psychosocial rehabilitation uses an empowerment model to support and increase day-to-day living for those with a variety of mental disorders or diagnoses that impede independent living. The objective is to develop skills to manage emotional responses, increase cognitive function and foster social skills so individuals can be productive in their work and community while working towards varying levels of independence.
